As a holding company, CHAMELEON is involved in a variety of business activities, including real estate sales, mortgage loans, business brokerage and consulting, wilderness adventures, and education.
Past ventures have included
produce brokerage, ownership of the largest independently owned rental purchase
company in San Diego county, real estate property investment partnerships with
holdings in California and Washington, and small business consulting.
Perhaps the most challenging
of these past ventures, as well as the lowest paying, was consulting small
businesses. During a 10-year period, CHAMELEON provided services to a wide range
of businesses, including paint shops, clothing stores, real estate television
shows, printing facilities, vending machine companies, and produce companies,
among others. Tasks involved in this brand of consulting were activity
management, designing managerial accounting schemes and programming accounting
and database software, personnel management, marketing, asset management,
facilities configuration, and raising capital.
The significance of my
experience in small business consulting is the education that I received from
working with a diverse group of business owners and their employees. I have
concluded that all business problems and solutions begin with the people
involved in the business. The importance of knowing your marketplace cannot be
overemphasized, as well. The lesson that I carry with me to each new situation
is understanding how businesses work, regardless of the product or service they
provide. This has been an invaluable resource in business brokerage.
